Occupations:
I am Stephen Grover Cleveland, I was born in New Jersey I am a self made man I had self educated myself at the age of 13. By 1859 I was admitted to join the bar. My first true job that gave me recognition was my job as assistant district attorney. By 1870 I was a sheriff I believe in truth and justice above all. This is how I believe things should be run; that the honesty and truth comes above all no shady deals not crooked or corrupt bargains it should be for the people not for my wallet or anyone else’s. By 1885 I was elected president by a decision that because of my honest and courage in protection of the public welfare I would do better than those who keep the private life and the dark hidden from the public. I am the people voice I speak for them and they speak through me, I hold honesty and integrity at the highest part of my priorities in life.
Position on Issues: My position on the issue is simply I’m an Anti-Imperialist, my position on the annexation of the Philippines is clear in my point of view I’m completely against it, the annexation goes completely against what I believe America should be focusing much more at the problems at we are facing at home. My position is clear in my opinion about the annexation of Hawaii I was completely against which is why invoked the Monroe Doctrine as to try and help keep the looming power of a giant from crushing a weaker and much more fragile country. The Filipinos should be left alone and the Philippines need not to be annexed they do not wish it we are not doing what’s good for them but what’s good for us that goes against my principles we must worry about a home and then go abroad and even in that I disagree we should stay where we are the manifest destiny is nothing but a dream I am anti-expansion.
List of reason on interest in topic:
· Just looking at how the Philippines react to our input to help them, they appreciate that we are trying to liberate them but they do not want to be under our control they just want to be free. This can only end badly.
· I have always been against expansionism I believe we should focus at home and be very cautious and in expanding outwards we are in dangerous waters we should tread carefully.
· My strong conservative beliefs compel me to stand up against yet another attempt to annex another country that truly does not want be assimilated into the United States.
· We have already agreed that we would not annex Cuba and leave them to self govern; so why are we so eager to try and annex another country even though it’s obvious that they do not desire it.
